For the first time Toowoomba Regional Council is considering using water from Wivenhoe Dam.

The pipeline was built nine years ago, if used it would be the first time since the pipelines construction that water has been pumped up The Range.

The Chronicle reports that Councillor Nancy Sommerfield confirmed yesterday that the low water levels had prompted meetings within Council to consider a proposal to make use of the $187 million project.

"We are having briefings this week about timelines to turn it on but it will have to go before a council meeting next month," Cr Sommerfield said.

The question on everyone’s lips is at what cost does this come to ratepayers?
