This year, 11 November marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). Each year on this day, Australians observe one minute’s silence at 11 am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts and appreciation of their sacrifice. There's various locations at cenotaphs around the region.
Theatre Arts Mackay Dance Excellence is proud to present ‘Showcase Gala 2018.' Showcasing our very talented and diverse students from Twinkle Stars through to our elite Senior Students. Out of the sun and out of the rain, the Troppo Markets are always popular. It’s on at Mount Pleasant Shopping Centre carpark on the second Sunday of the month from 7.30am until midday. Mackay’s Troppo Treasure Market will keep you coming back with a never-ending variety of items for sale and plenty of entertainment and amusements too. It’s more than just shopping… it turns a Sunday into a fun day.
Gargett Markets is a community market in the beautiful Pioneer Valley. Held one Saturday a month and it's on Saturday this weekend. Come for a drive up the Valley and enjoy over 45 quality stalls. It's at the Pioneer Valley Sporting Association on Eungella Rd in Gargett from 9am to 1pm.
Fastkarts is out for more adventure! Visiting the Mackay Region this weekend from 9am-5pm. Mackay has an excellent facility in Palmyra and you get the opportunity to drive and race Fastkarts on a real race track. Grab your mates together and settle the scores with a team race or just a leisurely drive. There are some conditions which you can see on their Facebook page. The cost is pretty good too - only $25 for 15 minutes, and a $5 once off licence is required also which is valid for 12 months at any Fastkarts venue.
A selection of artworks by Debbie has been chosen to showcase her journey as a painter from times past, growing up in a much cooler climate to living in Mackay where there is an abundance of inspiration in this amazing and beautiful tropical environment we live in. A colourful collection of flora and landscapes in various mediums is on display including Debbie's new neutral coastal series and the process involved creating these pieces. There’s plenty of excitement for the kids at Timezone, where they can play video games, a little Air Hockey, bowling and even Laser Tag. It opens up from 9am until late at Canelands.
Heading into the Pioneer Valley is always a great idea for a road trip with the kids. And to finish it off, a bite to eat at the Pinnacle Pub. The kids are looked after with a play area, and you can get stuck into a pie or a HUGE schnitty! Or, you can sit back & relax in the family-friendly atmosphere – that part is free.
Why not grab the kids and head to Airlie Beach lagoon? The lagoon is surrounded by grassy knolls, perfect for a spot of sunbathing or finding a quiet spot in the shade to read a book. The sandy beach area at one end provides a safe stinger-free environment for the kids to play in the shallows and the lagoon is surrounded by landscaped gardens for aesthetic appeal. A children's pool is situated at one end, and it's all free!
