Businesses across all industries are still grappling the impact of the pandemic, most notably the concern for the travel and tourism sector.

Toowoomba Travel Planner Ben Apsey penned his concerns in an open letter to Federal MP for Groom Garth Hamilton - who joined Lee to respond.

Apsey expressed his frustration with the Government and the lack of support received.

Lee shared a copy of the letter, which Mr Apsey had wrote: "I'm deeply concerned about the perilous state of the travel industry".

In summary, Mr Apsey wants MPs to provide "urgent financial support". Lee welcomed both men onto the show to get the whole picture.

Mr Hamilton acknowledged that the industry is hurting, pledging to open more conversations and avenues for support. Following the chat, Ben spoke on the current state of affairs and what needs to be addressed.

LISTEN TO THE FULL CHAT BELOW:

  • Toowoomba has lost many travel agencies and is still hurting from the current situation.
  • Garth Hamilton has acknowledged that he is aware that the industries are hurting, and he has given us updates on how the Federal and State governments are moving in order to open up travel and get the industry moving again.
  • He also pledged to try and open up conversations about getting some support to the industry.
  • Shortly after Garth spoke to Lee, Ben joined the show. He was pleased that the Government is moving to help the industry out of the dire straits, but is disappointed that it took going to the media to get a response from the MP. He calls for more financial support.
  • He is also concerned that cruise ships weren't included in the re-opening of international travel.
