Townsville households continue to hurt following the impacts of the monster monsoon, and that feeling is mirrored by many small local businesses.

Help is out there though, with grants being available for business houses feeling the impacts of the floods.

Townsville City Council has provided a venue and joined with the Townsville Chamber of Commerce, Townsville Enterprise Limited, Townsville Business Development Centre and a number of state and national industry bodies as well as Queensland Government agencies to provide advice on what services are needed and to contribute to the centre.

You can visit the centre from 9am-5pm 7 days a week at 143 Walker Street.

Visiting the Small Business Recovery Centre will allow you to speak with industry professionals about various topics, your specific issues, options available and support needed.

You can get the process started by filling out the Small Business Recovery Assistance Form online now at this link

The form is to express your interest in recovery services available, and then a Townsville Enterprise staff member will be in touch with you.

Grants are also now available from Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority to assist small businesses to pay for costs of clean-up and reinstatement.

An Exceptional Circumstances Grant up to a maximum of $25,000 is available to assist eligible small businesses as follows:

  • Initial grant amounts to assist you with cleaning and reinstatement costs immediately following the disaster event - up to a total of $5,000; and
  • Subsequent grant amounts to assist you with additional cleaning and reinstatement costs - up to a total of $20,000

All claims must be supported by either evidence of damage and quotes (initial grant) or evidence of damage, invoices and proof of payment (subsequent grant).

If you're claiming a subsequent grant then evidence of payment must be supplied for both the initial and subsequent grant amounts.
