Former Port Adelaide captain Travis Boak has applauded the club for electing co-captains for the 2019 season.

Port Adelaide last week decided to elect Tom Jonas and Ollie Wines as co-captains for the Power's 2019 campaign.

And speaking to Jars & Louie on Triple M Adelaide this afternoon, the Power's previous on-field leader Travis Boak believes it is a decision that more clubs will emulate in the future.

"I reckon as the years go on; more and more sides will end up dong it," Boak said.

"There's no doubt that both of them (Jonas and Wines) are quality leaders, both of them are going to be quality captains.

"But doing it together, they'll certainly be able to lean on each other during the year.

"It's not always smooth sailing, and when it does get challenging you can lean on each other and absorb a lot of the heat that comes from outside."
