There are renewed warnings for North East residents to never fell trees in state parks for firewood, as the autumn collection season opens across Victoria this Wednesday.

DELWP cracking down on those selling the product, with Operation Axe still in effect as locals seek to boost their supplies til the end of June.

Jail time of one year - or fines of up to $7,700 acting as a big deterrent to those chopping down trees.

More than 100 spots across the Hume will be open for us to pick up wood.
