Central Coast Council will introduce water restrictions when our biggest dam is half full, or half empty...depending on which way you view it.

Mangrove Creek Dam hitting 50 percent is the new trigger for Level 1....compared with the old mark of 42 percent.

Level 2 will start at 40, Level 3 at 35, Level 4 at 30 and Level 5 at 25.

Council looked at a number of risk factors in making the changes, including our growing population, more frequent drought and the proposed Wallarah 2 coal mine.

As of this week, Mangrove Creek Dam is sitting at about 57 percent.

This time 12 months ago it was 67.
