Rumours that Todd Carney would be returning to the NRL as a North Queensland Cowboy have been churning over the last 24 hours and now Triple M's NRL Insider has something to say.

Dobbo joined Triple M Brisbane's The Big Breakfast Tuesday morning to talk about the rumours, confirming that Carney has indeed signed with the Cowboys but has yet to convince the NRL to give him another chance.

"It will be announced in the next couple of days, he's signed with the North Queensland Cowboys," Dobbo said. "It hasn't been approved by the NRL, he'll have to go down and plead his case to Todd Greenberg but he will be a North Queensland Cowboy this year."

Carney was let go by the Cronulla Sharks and deregistered in 2014 after the infamous "bubbler" incident - something he said he was ready to move on from.

"That's one of the big reasons why I want to come back and play," he told Channel Nine News. "Not to be remembered for the so-called bubbler.

"I appreciate what I lost and what I had. To get that back would be a dream come true again."
