Two boys aged 16 and 17 were charged yesterday following investigations into the alleged unlawful entry of a Redlynch Post Office premises.

 

Offenders forced entry to the Larsen Road building at around 7pm last Saturday and conducted a brief search of the interior before fleeing with several parcels.

 

Police were quickly on the scene with first-response crews sighting the suspects fleeing into a nearby cane field. Officers located and recovered several parcels which had been dropped by the offenders as they fled the crime scene. Some other items of interest to investigators were also located nearby and seized for examination.

 

An intensive search of the area was conducted however the offenders were unable to be located.

 

Subsequent investigations by Cairns Property Crime Squad officers saw search warrants executed and several people interviewed.

 

The two youths, both from Manoora, were located on Jensen Street just after 4pm yesterday and taken into custody.

 

They were charged with a total of six offences including breaking and entering premises and stealing and possession of stolen property. The pair were also charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle as a result of investigations into an unrelated burglary and vehicle theft incident at Whitfield last Sunday.
