Union Bus Drivers Refusing To Take Fares Today As Strike Action Heats Up

Translink is urging Brisbane bus commuters to do the right thing today and attempt to 'touch-on and touch-off', despite union drivers refusing to take fares.

It's part of The Rail, Tram and Bus Union's strike action over a lack of security for drivers in wake of the death of fellow union member Manmeet Alisher, who was killed during a random fire attack while he was driving through Moorooka late last year.

All day today, drivers who are members of the RTBU will be turning a blind eye to customers wanting to pay, at a cost of more than half a million dollars to the taxpayer.

Tomorrow, their strike action ramps up even further with hundreds of union drivers walking off the job during the arvo peak, from 2pm to 6pm.

After continued pressure, the union has assured Brisbane City Council that school bus services will run as normal to make sure no children are left stranded.
