Former Attorney General, Vanessa Goodwin will be farewelled at a State Funeral this Friday.
Ms Goodwin sadly passed away on Saturday following a battle with brain cancer, ahead of the Liberals State election win.
Tasmanian Premier, Will Hodgman faced the media this morning for the first time since his victory speech, announcing the honour for Ms Goodwin.
Mr Hodgman has been busy helping plan the funeral since the weekend.
"Our dear friend and college Vanessa Goodwin, who tragically died last week, will be farewelled by the people of Tasmania at a State Funeral on Friday the 9th of March at Saint David's Cathedral at 2pm".
"With respect to Vanessa's passing, it was difficult for all of us ... the most extraordinary coincidence of events that it would happen on election day".
"I know Vanessa would be looking on very proudly on her colleagues that have delivered a majority Liberal Government for our state".
The Premier said he believes all Tasmania's will welcome the State funeral, with Labor Leader, Rebecca White also confirming it's an appropriate course of recognition.
Anyone wishing to attend will have to contact the communications and protocol unit of the Department of Premier and Cabinet, who are organising the funeral alongside Ms Goodwin's family, and Saint David's.
