Every available police officer in Victoria has been rostered on, for a major statewide blitz on bad driver behaviour.

Operation Scoreboard starts at 12:01am Thursday September 28th, with a focus on drink and drug driving, speed, fatigue, distraction offences and seatbelt compliance.

With the school holidays upon us, Road Policing Command Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer says the force has only one goal this weekend.

“For me it’s quite simple, I want all Victorians to keep their eyes on the road, look out for one another and safely enjoy their long weekend,” AC Fryer said.

“Last year we were lucky that no one lost their lives on the roads over the weekend, we did however have about 120 collisions were people were injured.

“It was also concerning that we caught 250 drink drivers; you would think by now motorists understand the consequences of driving or riding with alcohol and or drugs in their system.

“Sadly many don’t seem too, another 202 drivers were found to be driving with an illicit substance in their system.

Roads are expected to be busy right across the state, with the long weekend in the middle of school holidays, motorcycle enthusiasts venturing off on recreational weekend trips and major arterial routes to carry significant traffic.

Operation Scoreboard will run until 11.59pm Sunday 1 October.
