Victoria has recorded six new local cases on top of the five new cases reported Monday morning.

Five aged care centres have been put in lockdown as the number of cases linked to the facilities continues to grow with a resident added to the list, along with a third worker to test positive.

Victoria's Health Minister Martin Foley announced that of the five cases announced on Monday morning, three are related to "emerging outbreaks in our private residential aged care sector".

With the latest facility joining Arcare Maidstone and two Royal Freemasons facilities in Footscray and St Kilda Road listed as BlueCross Western Gardens in Sunshine.

In the meantime, Acting Victorian Premier James Merlino has laid strong suggestions that Victoria is far from safe ground, concerned over the developing number of "high risk exposure sites".

"There is no doubt, the situation is incredibly serious. The next few days remain critical. I want to be very clear with everyone, this outbreak may well get worse before it gets better," he said.
