A Victorian police officer has been charged with speeding and dangerous driving while on duty.

The 54-year-old leading senior constable was clocked driving 45km/h over the limit back in August 2020, while driving through Coldstream.

The constable is believed to have been on duty at the time of the incident which has initiated an internal investigation.

The man copped a handful of charges including driving at a dangerous speed, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, exceeding the speed limit by 45km/h.

The man is due to appear in a court, the dates have not yet been made public by Victoria Police.
