Stephen Michael, one of Western Australia’s greatest footballers, spoke with Basil Zempilas and Xavier Ellis and explained why he never travelled to the East to play in the VFL.

"My parents meant a lot to me...unfortunately mum and dad don't fly, they'd never fly anywhere and even mum don't like the lifts," Stephen said on Triple M Breakfast.

"If mum and dad can drive to Perth, then I’ll return the favour and stay here.”

The South Fremantle ruckman just loved playing the game and believed that things have changed as the sport has become more professional.

“I didn’t set out to break records or achieve anything…I’m a great believer at the moment we don’t play sport, we play for business.”
