A Garden Suburb woman says she was shocked to find the wall cavities of her house had been turned into a giant bee hive.

Megan Sutherland woke up on Saturday to the sound of a "deafening humming noise" and discovered a swarm of bees outside her bedroom window.

After some investigating, her husband John found the walls were completely full of honeycomb.

"One cavity was chockers...it's then gone into next cavity...and it's traveled all the way up the side beam almost to the roof!" she told KOFM's Tanya and Steve.

Megan is making the most of the 'sweet' find and has begun extracting honey, collecting about 30kg so far.

"It's actually really yummy honey," she said

Unfortunately her insurance won't cover the cost to remove and repair the walls.
