There have been reports that trucks have been accessing a water outlet in the Southern Downs for the last few weeks – leading to Council investigations and the installation of surveillance.

The Chronicle reports that in the darkness of night dozens of trucks have reportedly being accessing water from the Warwick Water Treatment Plant, illegally siphoning untreated water from Connolly Dam.  The theft has resulted in the immediate decision to secure public infrastructure to prevent further siphoning.

A tip off from neighbouring properties prompted Council officers to inspect the site finding a lock and chain missing from the standpipe.

Locals from the region say that numerous large tanker trucks had been taking water from the facility for a number of weeks.
