Queensland’s live music scene has been left in the lurch and is currently at the mercy of the double standards set by the state government regarding venue capacity according to Powderfinger bassist John ‘JC’ Collins.

Speaking on The Big Breakfast this morning JC, who is the part owner of venues such as Fortitude Valley Music Hall and The Triffid, told listeners how the live music scene is visibly suffering despite what is being advertised and has launched a petition to level the playing field.

“You can have 50,000 people at Suncorp Stadium which is great… but the music venues are only operating at around 30% despite the press releases by the state government saying ‘we’re back to full capacity”

“We’re asking the state government to come to the table and look at the industry and see how bad it is. We’re not trying to make money; we’re just trying to survive – it’s restricted trade basically”

Whereas sporting stadiums in Queensland have returned to full capacity since the fallout of COVID-19 music venues still must abide by the one person per two square metre rule.
