Calling all music lovers, guitar heroes and rock fans: We want YOU to help break a Guinness World Record just by playing an AC/DC track.

The Sydney Guitar Festival is this year hoping to make history by gathering 500 guitarists to break the world record for the largest electric guitar ensemble.

On Sunday, August 12, guitar players young and old will rock out at The Concourse, Chatswood, simultaneously playing AC/DC's Highway to Hell lead by none other than Aussie music legends The Choirboys.

As well as breaking records, all profits from the attempt will go towards the Australian Children's Music Foundation to support disadvantaged kids and help to change their lives through the power of music.

"We encourage all guitar fans to come down and join in the monumental world record attempt," event founder Alex Zotov said.

"As some extra incentive, our guitar friends at the Ealing Blues Fest in the UK are attempting the same world record in July, so we would obviously love to ensure the record is kept here in Australia."

If you're keen to play along, you can register via the event's readyfundgo page here; cost of rego is $45 but you'll get your very own Marshall MS2 battery powered amp which you get to take home after the attempt.
