Welcome Drop In Covid Cases Amid Rising Concerns Over Community Transmission

Authorities are on alert with the number of infectious cases in the community despite New South Wales recording 65 new local Covid-19 cases on Thursday.

Of these locally acquired cases, 40 are linked to a known case or cluster, while the remaining 25 cases are under investigation.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said even with the “welcome drop” in figures across the state, its concerning that "twenty-eight of those cases were infectious in the community whilst they were obviously out and about”.

“So that is the critical number that we need to watch in the days ahead.”

Cases numbers are expected to jump tomorrow because of infected people not isolating, but instead propagating potential community transmission.

Meanwhile, a nurse working on the COVID-19 ward at Westmead Hospital has tested positive to the virus despite being fully vaccinated, steering urgent investigations from NSW Health.
