An early morning storm packed a punch and put on an impressive light show across the Hunter.
It swept through just after 1:30am, dumping about 30mm of rain in the space of an hour in some areas.
While fire crews and the SES have been kept busy dealing with fallen trees and power lines coming down leaving homes without power.
