Winning Beer

Liquid Gold for the Southwest

The Southwest is delivering the goods in great produce yet again. But this time it’s all in the name of hops and bubbles.

Brewhouse in Margaret River picked up three trophies at this year’s Perth Royal Beer Awards with their Coupan Barrel Aged Stout scoring the Best WA Beer, the Best Stout Draught and the Best Commercial Beer.

There was another win in South West for the Cheeky Monkey Brewery in Wilyabrup -picking up a trophy with their Australian Lager.

The competition panel of seven local and interstate judges looked at more than 200 beers. Each beer was judged out of 20 on appearance (3 points), aroma (5 points), flavour (6 points), style (3 points) and technical quality (3 points), with gold medals for beers, deemed 17 points or higher.

However, the big winner of the completion again went to the Swan Valley’s Feral Brewing. They cleaned up with a stack of awards, winning the Best Commercial Brewery, Best West Australian Brewery, Best Ale Packaged, Best Ale Draught and Best Stout Packaged.
