A woman has been charged over a fire that tore through a Currumbin Valley home yesterday morning.

Police are accusing the 24-year-old of deliberately starting the blaze at the Tomewin Mountain Rd address around 4am on Tuesday.

A man and a woman, both aged 61, managed to escape the burning building, although the man suffered burns to his hands and smoke inhalation.

He was taken to the Gold Coast University hospital for treatment, while it took fire fighters three hours to put the flames out.

A 24-year-old woman has since been arrested and charged with arson.

She was due to face Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
