SA Youth Week (SAYW) will be celebrated from 10-18 April 2019. It is the largest annual event on the South Australian youth calendar helping to promote a positive image of young people. The District Council of Grant, City of Mount Gambier and Headspace have combined forces to create a fun filled program of events for youth aged from 12 to 25 years of age in Mount Gambier and Port MacDonnell with assistance from the Office of Youth and local businesses.

A free outdoor cinema will be held on Friday 12 April to kick start the school holidays. Bring your cushion, rug and popcorn to watch Alpha at 6.30pm and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle at 8.15pm. The cinema will be set up on the Port MacDonnell Village Green behind the Hall but may be moved to a more sheltered location if required. Anyone of any age is invited to attend, however it is aimed at young people primarily.

Sk8’n’Sounds @ the Bay will include live music, a free sausage sizzle and dollar drinks will be on offer to anyone aged 12 – 25 on Wednesday 17 April between 1pm and 3pm at the Port MacDonnell Skate Park BBQ area. Some of the district’s talented young musicians will provide the music, entertaining young people where they naturally congregate during the school holidays. Mickey McInerney on guitar and vocals, Jack Lockwood on bass guitar and Jimmy Wallace on drums make up the band called Stokes, playing everything from classic rock and grunge to modern Aussie music, while the Port MacDonnell Men’s Shed committee will be cooking the snags.

High school aged youth are invited to Drop In and hang out at the Community Complex anytime over the holidays, and in particular on Sunday 14 and Thursday 18 April when a dedicated youth area with free coffee and bites will be provided for them.

All Port MacDonnell events are smoke and alcohol free with security on site, however
supervision for children is not provided; parental discretion is required. A full program of
Youth Week events can be found at the Port MacDonnell Community Complex or online at
the District Council of Grant Facebook page or www.dcgrant.sa.gov.au.
