Not all heroes wear capes, you know. Some of them eat pies really, really quickly.

Like Martin Appleton-Clare, for example, who just broke records to become world pie-eating champion for the fourth year in a row.

The annual event, in its 23rd year, took place in a pub in Manchester on Wednesday with 60 contestants lining up to eat an entire 10 cm potato and meat pie as quickly as they could.

Appleton-Clare, who, The Mirror reports, sank two pints of lager before the competition, managed to swallow his snack in just 32 seconds, officially making him the four-time world champ.

"I'm over the moon," the 39-year-old said. "This is the fourth time I've won and this year feels a bit more important with it being a record."

The fastest woman, a Vicky Lindley from Doncaster, finished her pie in 90 seconds.
