Melbourne's getting a potato cake and spud festival on St Patrick's Day.

The Ascot Lot is celebrating the holy potato by holding a festival on Saturday from 11 am.

They're slinging free potato cakes - yes, free - as well as a food truck dishing out all sorts of potato.

Of course, there's drinks: $8 pints of Guinness, $10 espresso martinis and $5 alcoholic popsicles.

"What better way to celebrate St Patricks Day, than to eat potatoes and drink beer, right? This St Paddy's day, we're honouring our favourite vegetable snack - The Potato Cake," the event says.

"Not to mention, every other potato snack you can think of, while washing it down with some green beer and Guinness."

It's located on 448-462 Mt Alexander Road, Ascot Vale if you're keen.
