Gourmet burgers may be having a moment but one Sydney restaurant has found a way to take their burgers to the next level.

Burger Point at Marsden Park are now serving their classic offerings with a big ol' bowl of melted cheese after staff members decided to experiment with their signature cheese sauce.

According to INSIDER, the melted, gooey cheese started off as a topping on Burger Point's fries.

But when an employee decided that pouring it over a burger would make a great Instagram post, a new dish was born.

"Since then it's really exploded and been a bit everywhere," James Tulloch, the store's manager, said.

"The reaction at first was a bit shocked of how much cheese we put in and as soon as people saw other people eating it, it just started growing and growing."

You start with a Big Boss burger, which is loaded up with double BBQ-glazed bacon and BP sauce, before a layer of gooey cheese is poured on top.

If you prefer to serve yourself, though, you can request your cheese on the side and dip away to your heart's content.

Anyone else suddenly craving a burger?
