The Shape of Water

The Shape of Water has won the Oscar for Best Picture at the 90th Academy Awards.

The fantasy flick - which tells the story of a woman falling in love with a giant fish-man - was directed by Guillermo del Toro, who also took home Best Director at Sunday night's ceremony.

Set during the cold war, The Shape of Water stars Sally Hawkins as a mute cleaning woman who works in a secret government lab playing host to a half-aquatic, half-human creature.

Hawkins' character forms a bond with the fish-man and helps him escape, keeping him in the bathtub in her apartment.

Yes, they have sex. No, we have no idea how.

The Shape of Water beat out tough competition in Three Billboards..., Get Out and Lady Bird to take the highly coveted gong in what has been considered the tightest Oscar race in years.

It was presented by Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty - who famously read out the wrong name when presenting the same award last year - prompting del Toro to double-check the envelope when handed the statue.
