Ace Ventura could be in line for a reboot, according to their production company.

Morgan Creek Productions - which is changing its name to Morgan Creek Entertainment Group - is making a big push across television, features and digital, and that could lead to some more pet detecting.

Deadline reported the company, who own the rights to the franchise, is planning to mine its extensive library of films for reboots, including Ace Ventura, Major League, Young Guns and Dead Ringers, to name a few.

MCEG president David Robinson said the plan for Ace Ventura was a new movie in the spirit of the original.

"We wanted to do a mainstream theatrical production relaunch,” he said.

“Because it’s episodic in nature, about a pet detective, it also lends itself to a traditional single-camera series franchise.”

So it could come in either a TV series or as a film - MCEG head of content Barbara Wall says they are "platform agnostic".

Robinson said they would welcome back Jim Carrey to reprise his role, but the concept will be as "a baton-handing" to allow a new star to take over.
