Remember when we found out Kevin Spacey was the worst kind of person after the allegations made against him in the #MeToo movement? Yeah, so does all of America apparently.

In the opening weekend for Spacey’s new flick Billionaire Boys Club, only US$126 was brought in by the production in it’s limited release at the US box office.

At an approx. average price of US$9 a movie ticket in the States, that means a whole 14 tickets were sold across the country. Grim.

This just got even worse with a horrifically bad total weekend of US$425.

The result was completely unsurprising to industry experts as all other productions he was associated with dropped him as quicker than a hot brick. Starting with Netflix and the long running House of Cards series, and later Ridley Scott’s All The Money Of The World replacing all his scenes with Christopher Plumber.

Vertical Entertainment, who distributed the film, released a statement in the lead up to the film’s release:

We don’t condone sexual harassment on any level and we fully support victims of it. At the same time, this is neither an easy nor insensitive decision to release this film in theatres, but we believe in giving the cast, as well as hundreds of crew members who worked hard on the film, the chance to see their final product reach audiences.

Spacey aside, you’ve still gotta feel sorry for the poor buggers who made the thing. But if it proves anything, it’s that casting abusers in your next big production is probably not going to help ticket sales.
