Apparently Hollywood's completely run out of ideas because a sequel to Gladiator is in the works.

According to Deadline, Ridley Scott, the director of the original Gladiator starring Russell Crowe, is set to take reins of the sequel with will reportedly focus on Lucius, the son of Lucilla.

Lucius was the nephew of the Emperor Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix, who killed Russell Crowe’s Maximus.

The original Gladiator was a global box-office smash, making $460m worldwide and won five Oscars, including best picture.

There currently is no news on casting or filming of the sequel yet, so it's going to be a long time before we get see it.

Still, it gives us an excuse to re-watch Gladiator!
