The long-standing professional relationship between 20th Century Fox and Channel 10 has come to an ugly end.

Murmurs of a split between the giant US production company and Channel 10 emerged a few weeks ago, but official confirmation of the split has now been handed to the ASX.

Fox will now pull all of its programming from Channel 10, including fan favourites M*A*S*H*, Futurama, and Modern Family.

But the loss of those programs fail in comparison to that of The Simpsons.

For 25 years, 10 has been the free-to-air broadcaster of Fox programs, none more popular than The Simpsons, with the critically-claimed cartoon becoming a staple for Australian children and adults in its 6pm nightly spot.

US television network CBS is currently undergoing a takeover of 10, barring some minor legal hurdles, and its thought that the network deemed that Fox contract as as necessary cost, considering their own large back catalogue of programming.

It is unaware if another free-to-air network will pick up the Fox contract and broadcast The Simpsons.
