Legendary Australian film Romper Stomper has been commissioned for a TV Series on streaming service, Stan.

The original 1992 film, which starred an up-an-coming actor by the name of Russell Crowe, centred around the exploits of an inner-Melbourne neo-Nazi group and their eventual downfall.

The TV series will pick up on themes from the original film, but will be set in modern day Australia, following a new generation of far right wing activists, their anti-racist counterparts and the multicultural fabric of a country that each group want to tear apart.

Jacqueline McKenzie and Dan Wyllie are set to reprise their original roles from the film and are supported by a cast of Australian acting royalty, including Lachy Hulme, Sophie Lowe and David Wenham.

“With such an extraordinary creative team, Romper Stomper will be unmissable television," Stan's chief content officer, Nick Forward, said.

"(The series will be) as provocative now as the film was in 1992, examining at a personal level the hatred, fear, vengeance and politics hidden in plain sight all around us.

"Stan is privileged to bring Geoffrey’s prodigious talents to bear on a contemporary exploration of the themes his film tackled so brilliantly.”

No release date for the six-part series has been announced yet.
