Back in 2013, the Wall Street Journal published a story about a bunch of blokes who had been playing the same game of tag for DECADES.

And now the ridiculously epic tale has been turned into a movie starring The Hangover's Ed Helms as one of those friends who just couldn't quit playing catch.

Basically Helms' character and his mates - played by Jake Johnson, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner and Hannibal Buress - get together once a year to continue the game of tag they first started playing when they were kids.

Except now having never, ever been "it", Renner's character wants out of the game - and the others aren't having any of it.

Tag: The Movie is absolutely batshit, Helms admits, but that's what makes it so great.

"It's funny because I feel like it's one of those stories you can only turn into a movie because it's real," Helms told People. "If someone came to me with this premise and was like, 'Yeah, it's a bunch of grown-ups who play tag', I would've thought, 'That's really corny and dumb'.

"But because the guys really do it, suddenly it's really kind of sweet and I don't know, a poignant thing...

"What this game represents to these adults, which is so much more than a game of tag, it's something that's glued their friendship together for 30 years."

Tag hits cinemas June 14; in the meantime, check out the trailer below.
