As 2017 winds down focussed has to shift for people in the entertainment industry to naming their favourite movies of the year.

Popular movie news and review website Empire has just released their top 10 list, and unsurprisingly the bloody brilliant horror/thriller flick Get Out! has taken top spot.

The directorial debut from comedian Jordan Peele has been critically acclaimed by pretty much everyone in the industry, and still has a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

It was also a massive box office hit, raking in over $250 million USD after being made on a budget of just $4.5 million.

The surprise packet in the top ten however is Blade Runner: 2049, which came in at number two.

The sequel to 1982's original Blade Runner was a box office hit, raking in as much as Get Out! but was made on a much larger budget and was critically panned throughout the industry.

La La Land, the movie that swept this year's Oscars took out the third spot, while Christopher Nolan's World War II epic Dunkirk placed at sixth, and Hugh Jackman's final turn as Wolverine, Logan, came in at eight.

Here's the full top ten:

1. Get Out

2. Blade Runner 2049

3. La La Land

4. Moonlight

5. The Death Of Stalin

6. Dunkirk

7. God’s Own Country
