There may be some kind of political brouhaha going on at the moment but we've found something much more interesting to focus on: One of TV's most tiresome sitcoms is finally, blissfully, coming to an end.

The Big Bang Theory - that one that has constant re-runs on what seems like every channel - has announced that this, their 12th season, will be their last, causing a collective sigh of relief to ripple around the world.

"We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show's success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic, creative close," a joint statement from CBS, Warners Bros. Television and Chuck Lorre Productions read.

The final series began filming earlier this week, and is believed to drop in the US on September 24 - right before the season two premiere of its spin-off, Young Sheldon.

A sort of prequel to The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon focuses on the titular character's formative years as a genius, which basically translates to the same sort of jokes as the original show but from a small child in a bow-tie.

It's still probably more entertaining than the leadership spill, though.
