For anyone north of 40 years of age, it might be a little tough to comprehend the reality that today, 25 years ago today, the last ever episode of The Late Show aired on Aussie TV.

TWENTY FIVE YEARS!

Post

For many Aussies, it was the sole reason to NOT head out on a Saturday night... (that or head out super late, once it had finished).

After the breakup of the D-Generation, itself a cult '80s classic, Santo Cilauro, Tom Gleisner, Jane Kennedy, Tony Martin, Mick Molloy, Rob Sitch and Jason Stephens got together to create The Late Show, which aired for an hour on Saturday nights.

Judith Lucy joined the group in season 2.

What they created was a cavalcade of 'champagne comedy' moments... the Mick and Tony opening, the Late Show Headlines, Street Talk, Shitscared, Pissweak World, Shirty The Slightly Aggressive Bear, Charlie The Wonder Dog, Geoff and Terry AND The Oz Brothers.

Plus, who could forget Graham and the Colonel, The Olden Days, and of course, the one and only Bargearse.

Whilst 25 years ago today marks a poignant day for lovers of awesome Aussie humour, it wasn't all bad news... From the ashes of The Late Show came Working Dog, which went on to produce Frontline, The Funky Squad and All Aussie Adventures, amongst others.

There's also those little Aussie films that could... namely The Castle and The Dish.

If you can get your hands on a DVD copy of The Best Bits Of The Late Show: Champagne Edition, then as Molly would tell you, do yourself a favour!
