The Meg

In what looks like the ocean's answer to Jurassic Park, Jason Statham is back to his running-from-explosions best in the trailer for the Hollywood's newest blockbuster, The Meg.

It has pretty much everything you expect from a Statham movie: guns, a helicopter chase and Statham's silent-but-sarcastic steely persona.

But this time around, rather than mob bosses or gangsters, Statham's hunting down "the largest shark that ever existed" otherwise known as Megalodon.

"Five years ago, expert sea diver and Naval Captain Jonas Taylor encountered an unknown danger in the unexplored recesses of the Mariana Trench that forced him to abort his mission and abandon half his crew," the movie synopsis reads.

"Though the tragic incident earned him a dishonourable discharge, what ultimately cost him his career, his marriage and any semblance of honour was his unsupported and incredulous claims of what caused it - an attack on his vessel by a mammoth, 70-foot sea creature believed to be extinct for more than a million years."

Before you say anything, yes, it sounds ridiculous. But watch the trailer. It's epic:
