The unlikely pairing of John Cena and Jackie Chan will be hitting our screens.

The two are combining with Need For Speed director Scott Waugh for an action-thriller, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The report says the movie will focus on Chan, a Chinese private security contractor, who is called in to extract Chinese oil workers from a refinery under attack in the Middle East.

He learns the attackers are planning to steal a fortune in oil, so teams up with a former Marine - played by Cena - to stop them.

Cena joined the project after Sylvester Stallone, who was originally cast in the role, pulled out.

There's no release date yet for the film, but the screenplay has been written.

Cena last starred in Blockers and will star in Transformers spin-off Bumblebee as well as Universal's The Janson Directive.
