Hit TV series Peaky Blinders could see a movie adaptation, according to a series director.

Otto Bathurst, who headed the first three episodes of the series, winning a BAFTA award for Best Director: Fiction, believes a movie version is in the works and being written by TV series writer Steve Knight.

"I think it's actually being written," he told Yahoo Movies UK.

"I think Steve, Steve Knight the writer, I think they're planning something, yeah."

Cillian Murphy - who stars as Tommy Shelby - has previously been reserved on the idea of transforming the series into a movie.

"I'm sort of like, 'Eh, yeah, I don't know, I'm not sure'," he said back in 2016.

"I love the idea theoretically, but it has to come at the right time, you know? You can't alienate the beautiful democratic thing of television where everyone just watches it.

"It's kind of a sexy idea, but I'll reserve judgement until the idea is presented to me."

Series five of Peaky Blinders is currently being filmed, and is scheduled to be broadcast in 2019.
