Some details have finally emerged regarding the standalone Han Solo Star Wars film.

The Ron Howard directed Solo: A Star Wars Story is scheduled for release on May 25 but details on the film have been scant, but Disney has recently released a brief synopsis of what we can expect to see in the film.

And Star Wars fans will be happy to hear that the film's plot won’t just be the origins of Solo, but of his friendship with best mate and crew mate Chewbacca.

The film's synopsis reads: “Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.”

Of course hardcore Star Wars fans will know that the first meeting of Solo and Chewy was documented in the comic Star Wars: Chewbacca, where Imperial pilot Solo refusing to kill and skin Chewie as the last remaining survivor on his ship. With Chewy's life debt growing into a loyal friendship with Solo once he exited the regime’s service.

However Disney might choose to throw out that meeting and go in a complete direction in the new film.

Chewbacca will be played by Finnish actor Joonas Suotamo, taking over the character from Peter Mayhew, while Solo will be played by American actor Alden Ehrenreich.
