The Simpsons has "fired SEVENTEEN people" for a 20-year-old error that has only just been picked up on by one of the show's executive producers.

Matt Selman took a screengrab of season six, episode 13 - And Maggie Makes Three - which first broadcast in 1995 and pointed out what is now a glaring mistake.

"Maggie is in photo on wall behind Marge telling Homer she's pregnant with Maggie," he said in the now-viral tweet.

The tweet, which has since racked up close to 100,000 likes, prompted Simpsons producer Al Jean to reply: "Canon is in ruins."

"I hope you're happy because we just fired SEVENTEEN people for that blunder," he added. "Fired. Through. Done."

Unfortunately, it wasn't the only picture frame pickle; shortly after the original tweet, a Simpsons fan followed up with a similar error.
