“An excruciating bore."

The reviews are in for the next instalment of Fantastic Beasts, and they aren't good.

The second film in the spin-off series from the Harry Potter Wizarding World, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is due to hit cinemas this Thursday, November 15, but judging from the early reviews, it hasn't exactly hit the mark.

Despite boasting a cast consisting of Best Actor Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law Johnny Depp and Zoe Kravitz - the film has only managed a rating of 53% on film review site Rotten Tomatoes.

Most of the reviews take aim at the overly complicated storyline and script, along with the overuse of CGI (which is to be expected in a film based in a fictional, magical world).

But the most savage review for the film came from Justin Chang who wrote in the The Los Angeles Times’: “Fantastic Beasts 2 is an excruciating bore just barely enlivened by stray glimpses of Hogwarts, a flicker of gay romance and a menagerie of computer-generated creepy-crawlies, ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ is enough to make J.K. Rowling fans weep in frustration, provided they can even keep their eyes open.”

Ouch.

Still, what do film critics know, they only rated Step Brothers with Will Ferrel and John C. Rielly only 55% and that's one of the best comedy films of all time.
