There's been plenty of hype but you can now officially lock it in: Tom Hardy will play Al Capone in the biopic Fonzo.

Hardy only recently wrapped up filming his latest flick Venom in January and he's almost immediately confirmed he'll take on another big project.

The Capone film will focus on his later years in life, where he was sent to Alcatraz and became increasingly demented.

Hardy shared a post on Instagram recently, reading "Time for Al Cap".

The plot for the film looks to focus on Capone's later years in life after spending 10 years in jail, and the "harrowing" effect it plays on him.

"Once a ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Alfonse Capone was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore," the film's synopsis reads.

"At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Alfonse’s mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life."
