Authorities are confused after a saltwater crocodile turned up in Heidelberg Heights in Melbourne’s north last night.
Two people happened on the one-metre long croc while walking in the suburb at about 8:30pm last night.
Heidelberg Heights is 13km north-east of Melbourne, leading to questions about how the croc got there.
Police said the reptile was “sitting quietly” in the front yard of a business which was closed for Christmas on Waiora Road.
Cops and a reptile catcher were called.
Staff from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning are going to collect it.
Police said anyone missing a crocodile or who can help find out the owner of it should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
