A woman in America was blown away when she copped a US$284 billion electricity bill — that’s $376 billion Australian.

Mary Horomanski of Pennsylvania got the giant bill this month, and couldn’t believe her eyes.

Luckily the company gave her a pretty lenient deadline to pay it off.

"It wasn't due until November of 2018," Horomanski told the Washington Post.

"It was like, well, I guess we have a year to come up with this billion-dollar bill."

She initially tried to figure out how she could have possibly used that much electricity.

"We had Christmas lights outside, but we don't have the Christmas Vacation lights," Horomanski said. "And I'm looking at my Christmas tree, and I'm like, no, that wouldn't have caused it…”

She sent a photo of the bill to her son, who contacted the company immediately.

Unsurprisingly it was an error, with the actual bill US$284.46 — a one billionth of what the initial bill was.
