A Kiwi bloke has been fined $100 after firing Nerf guns at Maccas staff because they’d run out of chicken nuggets.

22-year-old Jacob Geels was so annoyed about Maccas running out of nuggets that he jumped on the counter and started shouting and shooting toy Nerf guns.

"When he was spoken to by police later on he said he thought it was funny and didn't think anyone would care," police prosecutor Lisa Thomson told the court.

The guns fire what Geels’s lawyer Doug Taffs referred to as “foam wriggly things” rather than bullets.

"They are toys which are for children aged four to six,” Taffs said in court.

“They are clearly toys.”

Taffs asked for no conviction to be recorded against Geels’s name, but Judge Robert Murfitt refused the request.

Judge Murfitt said while the Nerf guns were meant for four-year-olds, "that was the level of maturity you displayed".
