Yes, really

A 63-year-old bloke has lost a trial to have the declaration of his own death annulled despite, obviously, being very much alive.

The unnamed Romanian national was declared dead in 2016, reports Agerpres, but failed to have it overturned because he submitted the annulment "too late".

"The papers say I am dead, even though I am alive," he said. "I have no source of income since my papers show I am dead, I cannot get a job.

"I cannot do anything in the country."

The confusion started when the man left Romania in 1992 to go and work in Turkey; due to family issues, he last visited them in 1999 and eventually lost touch with his relatives.

For some reason his estranged wife, having not heard from him in some time, decided he must be dead and in 2013 asked a court to rule as such.

They did so in 2016.

The poor bloke didn't realise what had happened until earlier this year, though, when Turkish authorities realised he was living with expired residence papers and sent him back to Romania - which is where he learned he was supposed to be dead.

He reckons he'll be heading back to court to try to change their minds although we can't imagine what possible evidence could be stronger than an actual, alive person telling people they're alive.
