A woman in Canberra has been charged over $200,000 to fill her car with petrol, according to Fairfax Media.

Tina Tian went to the Costco servo in Majura Park on December 19 to fill up on the way to visit family in Queensland, and thought she was paying $126 for the fuel.

When she checked her account three days later, she was shocked to see that the actual figure was $201,265.20.

Tian told Fairfax that Costco have been slow in sorting the issue out.

"They should have tried to solve the problem as soon as possible, but a manager told me they would need another couple of weeks to solve it," she said.

She said was told to go to a store in Brisbane but when there was told Canberra transactions couldn’t be accessed from Brisbane stores.

A spokeswoman from Costco told Fairfax that the company was investigating.

"We have been in contact with the member about the incident and are working to rectify it for them," she  said.

"We have been able to verify this was an isolated incident and are investigating the cause."
