The Californian-born craze, Lime Scooters have launched in New Zealand and it hasn't taken long for someone to completely wreck themselves on one.

Lime Scooters are used on a pay-as-you-go scheme, similar to the O-bike craze - with about 1000 rolled out late last month across Christchurch and Aukland.

But in a video uploaded on the 'Only In New Zealand' Facebook page, one commuter got way ahead of himself, trying to ride the scooter on a metal rail...it didn't end up well.

The scooters can reportedly reach speeds of up to 48kmh, with a 'safe' travel speed of 27kmh.

Lime Scooters will reportedly roll out across Australia soon, starting in Sydney with an aim to also be available in Melbourne and Brisbane.
